The most critical aspect of cybersecurity is information. The three characteristics of data/information are confidentiality, integrity, availability. The three states of data/information are storage, transmission, and processing. The ways to safeguard information is with technology, education, and policy.
Information is everything in the world of cybersecurity. To secure this information, we implement the Security Triad: confidentiality, integrity, and availability (also known as the CIA Triad). We must also understand the states of information to build security structures for our data at each state layer. Implementing one security structure is not enough: we need defense in depth. To fully secure an organization, it must utilize technology, provide education, and create intelligent policies.
