It can be very difficult to verify somebody’s identity digitally, especially over the internet. Digital signatures are a special way to do that: by utilizing hashing and encryption technology, digital signatures can provides a high degree of confidence that a document was signed by a particular person. It’s not foolproof, but it’s a heck of a lot better than nothing.
